S130

Aerospace Stainless Steel Bar

S130 Aerospace Stainless Steel Bar

BS S130 is an austenitic 18/9 chromium-nickel stainless steel in the British Standard Aerospace series of alloys.

Overview

It is stabilised by the addition of niobium to overcome the danger of intergranular corrosion common to some other stainless steel after exposure to temperatures of 430 to 820°C, which typically occur during welding. The steel is produced by an electric melting process and also conforms to the requirements of BS S100 (latest revision). It is supplied in solution treated condition. This grade of stainless steel is non-magnetic and cannot be hardened by heat treatment. It has a typical density of 7.8kg/dmĀ³.

Performance

BS S130 aerospace stainless steel bar offers good formability and is an easily welded material by the majority of commercial welding processes. The alloy is resistant to intergranular corrosion thanks to the inclusion of Niobium in the chemistry.

Typical Applications

Commercial applications for this engineering material include:

  • Heavy welded assemblies
  • Aircraft exhaust stacks
  • Manifolds
  • Ring collectors
  • Automotive parts
  • Used in aerospace, defence and other high technology sectors

We stock S130 in flats, round bar, square bar and hexagon bar.
