SigmaBronze 12

Phosphor Bronze Alloy

SigmaBronze 12 ™ Phosphor Bronze

SigmaBronze 12 is a continuously cast copper based alloy containing 10.5 - 13% tin. This alloy combines high mechanical strength and hardness with good ductility, corrosion resistance and wear resistance.

SigmaBronze 12 can be used as an alternative to PB1 or PB2 in many applications. It has the advantage of a higher tin content that will give a degree of self-lubrication as well as being available in a range of metric sizes.

Characteristics

SigmaBronze 12 offers high mechanical and fatigue strength with excellent corrosion resistance in seawater. The alloy has increased tin content which gives the material a degree of self-lubrication. With good resistance to impact loading and high wear resistance, SigmaBronze 12 provides good machinability and is weldable and brazable.

Typical Applications

Commercial applications for this engineering material include:

  • Pump & valve components
  • Marine ultrasonics
  • Worms & gears under high working loads
  • Excavation & cranes
  • Bearings & bushes
  • Linear bearings
  • Flanges

We stock SigmaBronze 12 ™ in flats, round bar, plate and hollow bar.
