AB2 (1400)

Aluminium Bronze Alloy

BS1400 AB2 Aluminium Bronze

BS1400 AB2 is the most commonly used cast aluminium bronze. It is known for its excellent resistance to corrosion, cavitation and erosion in seawater as well as other chloride containing environments due to a tough oxide film. It is the cast version of the 10/5/5 aluminium bronze and is usually compared with CA104 when a wrought alternative is required. BS1400 AB2 is also known for its high strength and excellent shock and wear resistance.

Benefits

BS1400 AB2 bronze alloy offers excellent cavitation, corrosion and erosion resistance, with high wear and abrasion resistance. The alloy is a non-sparking material with excellent performance in cryogenic service where the mechanical properties are maintained. BS1400 AB2 also offers good strength and toughness with good resistance to shock loading.

Typical Applications

Commercial applications for this engineering material include:

  • Non-sparking tools
  • Propeller hubs
  • Heavy-duty bearings
  • Marine hardware
  • Valve bodies
  • Worm Gears
