Having such a diverse range of materials allows our customers to choose the raw material that’s right for the application rather than having to make do with what’s available. Compromises like that are simply unnecessary in our view and can be detrimental to the final application and can increase overall costs.

Secondly, we buy the materials we stock in a very different way to many of our competitors. Engineering raw materials are produced around the world and quality really does vary from supplier to supplier. Our Key Supplier Programme finds, evaluates and develops relationships with the best suppliers of all the materials we sell. This means the materials we supply perform exactly to their specification every time they're used.

Thirdly, we are very firmly fixed on providing the best customer service we can. Our approach to quality extends beyond our products and into every aspect of the business from the additional processing services we offer to the people we employ. We offer a range of supply options that's unique to Smiths from a very simple "you order, we deliver" option right the way through to a full Supplier Managed Inventory option.
