5754
A medium strength aluminium alloy commonly used in applications that require high weldability and corrosion resistance. This alloy is often used in the form of tread-plate. 5083 has similar properties but with a higher strength.

CERTAL
The ideal aluminium plate for mould tools. This alloy has good machinability allowing for faster production times and it can be spark eroded. This combined with good shape stability and corrosion resistance make it a superior alternative to steel.

An aluminium alloy with high strength and hardness that is primarily used in aerospace applications. It has good machinability but limited corrosion resistance. Where higher mechanical properties are required consider CONTAL as an alternative.

6262
An aluminium alloy with good machinability, excellent mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance. This alloy is often used as a substitute for 2011 where better anodising is a specific requirement.

6082 (H30)
A very popular heat treatable aluminium alloy designed for all-purpose engineering work. High strength is matched by good anodising, welding, corrosion resistance and machinability to form an alloy suitable for many applications.

A medium strength alloy commonly used for bespoke aluminium sections often in architectural and transport applications where good corrosion resistance is required together with a good surface finish. This alloy also has good anodising qualities.

L168 (L168)

5251 (N4)
A medium strength aluminium alloy with high corrosion resistance. This alloy is weldable and finds many applications in marine environments. The quarter hard temper allows this alloy to undergo limited bending and forming operations.

5083 (N8)
A popular high strength aluminium alloy well suited to welding applications that require excellent corrosion resistance. Often a substitute for 5754 that has high strength but lower mechanical properties.

3103 (N3)
A low to medium strength aluminium alloy that combines very good resistance to corrosion with good weldability and formability. This alloy has better mechanical properties than 1000 series aluminium alloys.

2014 (H15)
High mechanical properties with good machinability. However finished components often need a protective coating to avoid corrosion. Cold formability can be limited when used fully heated treated as can weldability.

1050 (S1C)
An unalloyed non heat-treatable aluminium that is easily worked and has high resistance to corrosion. Low strength makes it ideal only for applications where formability and corrosion resistance are the overriding requirements.

TOOPLT

230M07 (EN1A)
A consistent free cutting steel suitable for a wide range of applications where good machinability and a good surface finish is required. The relatively small amount of added lead improves machining with very little effect on mechanical properties.

655M13 (EN36)
A nickel chrome case hardening alloy steel for use in heavy duty applications such as rollers, gears and cams. High strengths can be achieved by carburising and hardening and the nickel content improved its ability to withstand shock loads.

080A15 (EN3B)
A general purpose steel suitable for mechanical and allied engineering applications that will not be heavily stressed. Machinability and weldability are both good and it has the capability to be case-hardened. Used in many engineering applications.

817M40 (EN24)
A 1.5% nickel chrome, direct hardening steel that has high strength and toughness. It finds many applications where high strength and impact resistance are requirements such axles, crankshafts and gears.

080M40 (EN8)
A medium carbon steel that finds many applications where the mechanical properties required are just above those offered by the mild steels yet the expense of an alloy steel cannot be justified. Hardening treatments will improve resistance to wear.

605M36 (EN16)
A manganese molybdenum steel that has excellent ductility and good machinability. It has a high tensile strength as well an ability to withstand shock loading. It finds many uses in engineering applications such as shafts, pins and bolts.

CC494 (LB4C)
A bronze alloy that has an increased lead content that makes it more plastic than other alloys. General purpose bearings made from this material will withstand slacker tolerances and infrequent lubrication if a softer shaft material is used.

A high strength aluminium bronze that has good mechanical properties at high temperatures as well as excellent corrosion resistance. It is well suited to machining and hot stamping.

C932 (SAE660)
Although not yet covered by BS EN 1982, this alloy is a popular continually cast leaded gunmetal. It finds many applications where a balance of corrosion resistance, strength, hardness and machinability is required.

CC481 (PB1)
A standard, continually cast phosphor bronze alloy. It finds applications as a material for many kinds of bearings and bushes particularly where heavy loads are envisaged.

CW008 (C103)
An oxygen free copper, similar in its attributes to CW004. However it is "oxygen free" and is thus suitable for applications where it will be heated in a reducing atmosphere. In such conditions embrittlement should be minimal.

CW024 (C106)
A phosphorus-deoxidised copper that is thus well suited to welding and brazing. It finds many applications in general engineering particularly in chemical environments.

A copper-nickel (cupro-nickel) alloy with excellent sea water corrosion and erosion resistance. It finds many applications in marine engineering due to its good strength and ability to be hot and cold worked.

CW004 (C101)
A high conductivity copper that is commonly used in electrical applications but it is also suitable for general engineering. In an annealed state it should have 100% conductivity though it should not be used in reducing atmospheres.

CW505 (CZ106)
A brass alloy (also known as cartridge brass or 70/30) that has a higher copper content and is suitable for many cold working operations particularly bending, stamping and deep drawing where the likelihood of stress fracture needs to be minimised.

CW508 (CZ108)
A common, high purity brass alloy suited to many general applications and often used for electrical engineering. Hardness and strength are both excellent and this alloy is well suited to cold forming.

A brass alloy that is commonly used for turning and riveting and has a good combination of machinability and ductility. It can be easily cold worked for a variety of applications and it can also be hot stamped. This alloy has replaced CZ119.

CW614 (CZ121)
A standard high speed machining brass alloy designed to be used for general applications and for machining using high speed cutting tools. It is sometimes used in hot stamping, however, this alloy has very limited cold working characteristics.

A brass alloy that is the standard alloy used for fast repetitive, hot stamping. The mechanical properties of the alloy mean cheap, easily produced dies can be used. It has excellent machinability but very limited cold workability.

CW624 (CZ130)
A free machining brass alloy that contains aluminium to create a bright, tarnish resistant, finish particularly in extruded forms. It is particularly suitable for hinges, lock sections etc., however it is unsuitable for plating or soldering.

CW707 (CZ126)
A brass alloy (also known as arsenical brass) with increased resistance to corrosion. Its ductility and strength is better than other common alloys and it's well suited to applications such where a lot of forming is required such as heat exchangers.

CW712 (CZ112)
A brass alloy (also known as Naval brass) that contains tin to give it improved corrosion resistance making it ideal for marine applications. It has higher strength than other brasses though its machinability is reduced.

CW721 (CZ114)
An aluminium bearing high tensile brass alloy suitable for hot stamping and machining. Machinability is not as good as the free machining alloys however this alloy is stronger and has good corrosion resistance.

CW722 (CZ115)
A brass alloy similar to CW721 (CZ114) but the restriction of the aluminium content means this alloy will perform better in soldering and plating operations.

CW602 (CZ132)
A leaded brass alloy suitable for hot stamping and machining with an arsenic content that inhibits dezincification. This alloy finds many applications in the water and gas supply industries.

CW402 (NS101)
A leaded nickel silver alloy that can be hot stamped, machined easily and engraved. It has a silver appearance that is often described as more aesthetically pleasing than stainless steel and thus finds many ornamental and decorative applications

CW401 (NS103)
A nickel silver alloy that has good corrosion resistance.

1.4307 (304L)
An austenitic stainless steel that is very similar to 1.4301 but its carbon content is limited to a maximum of 0.03%. This reduces the likelihood of corrosion after the alloy has been welded. Often used in the food processing industry.

1.4404 (316)
An austenitic stainless steel and the most common grade containing molybdenum. The added molybdenum improves corrosion resistance (better than 1.4301) particularly in chloride environments. It can be easily formed and welded and has good toughness.

1.4305 (303)
An austenitic stainless steel that has very good machinability but reduced formability. It is not recommended for any application involving welding and has a lower resistance to corrosion than 1.4301. Applications include shafts, studs etc.

1.4301 (304)
A commonly used austenitic stainless steel containing 18% chrome and 8% nickel. It has excellent welding and forming properties and is highly resistant to corrosion. Machinability is reasonable and it is used in a wide variety of applications.

1.4057 (431)
A heat treatable martensitic stainless steel that contains nickel. It has high tensile and torsional strength and is well suited to shaft manufacture. However, welding is poor it cannot be easily cold worked. Corrosion resistance is good.

1.4005 (416)
The addition of sulphur to this martensitic stainless steel gives it the best machining properties of any stainless steel. However, this improvement in machinability comes at the cost of reduced corrosion resistance, formability and weldability.

1.4541 (321)
A variation of the basic austenitic stainless steel 1.4301 (304) with the addition of titanium as a stabiliser. It is resistant to intergranular corrosion and can be easily welded and formed however it is difficult to polish.

MUMETAL
A nickel-iron alloy that has very high magnetic permeability at low field strengths. It is most often used in the manufacture of magnetic screens/shields in high technology devices.

INVAR36
A controlled expansion nickel-iron alloy with the lowest thermal coefficient of expansion for this product type. It has a number of associated brand names and it finds applications in bi-metallic strips and high technology devices such as lasers.

TELCOSEAL
A nickel-iron alloy that has a very low coefficient of expansion. It can be machined and formed and can also be welded. It finds many applications where a low coefficient of expansion is required such as sealing glass for metal components.

RM4550
A nickel-iron alloy that is 45% nickel. It has a high initial magnetic permeability compared to silicon-iron (but still much less than Mumetal).

POMC
Often mis-named Delrin, Acetal Copolymer has low moisture absorption, high mechanical strength & stiffness, UL94-HB & FDA approved. Ideal for machining precision parts. Resists hot water & alkali better than Acetal H. Glass-filled version available

PVDF
Polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) has exceptional chemical resistance and electrical insulating properties. Widely used in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries. UL94V-0 flammability.

PVC

UHMWPE

PSU
Polysulphone is translucent yellow colour material, excellent mechanical, electrical & thermal properties (150¦C continuous / 210¦C short term). Very good radiation resistance, food safe and UL94V-0 flammability

PA66
This is the preferred general purpose nylon for small bearings & gears. Has higher stiffness, tensile strength & improved creep resistance over Nylon 6. FDA approved & UL94V-2 flammability. Also available 30% glass filled for extra strength.

Good mechanical strength & stiffness. Low creep resistance. Excellent wear resistance, like nylons, and low friction. Very good dimensional stability, better than acetal. Suitable for food contact. UL94-HB flammability.

Delrin (POM H) has similar properties to Acetal C except for having slightly higher mechanical strength but lower chemical resistance. FDA approved & UL94-HB flammability

ACRYLIC
